The incident took place around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday when the man was illegally crossing the busy four-lane Washington Boulevard and was hit by a passing car, said Stamford Sgt. Robert Monck.

"He crossed against the light, which is illegal," Monck said.

Monck said the man, who was ticketed for causing an immediate hazard to a pedestrian, was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The driver of the car was also cited for not having his vehicle registered.

A tow truck had to be called to removed the man’s 500-pound motorized wheelchair from the roadway.
